The Planning Department has launched a new web page for its project to revise the County of Maui’s Title 19 Zoning Code, making it innovative, user-friendly and a way to promote livable communities.
The T19 Project web page is at https://www.mauicounty.gov/2375/Title-19-Rewrite-Project.
The project kicked off in February and aims to update Maui County’s 60-year-old zoning code, incorporating a hybrid of conventional land use district zoning and form-based zoning that addresses buildings and how they fit in with communities. The revised code will update conventional land uses and general requirements that support walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods.
The Planning Department has retained consultant Orion Planning + Design as the contractor for the anticipated four-year update process. The newly launched website includes information on the history and description of the T19 Project, its timeline, team members, presentations, drafts, frequently asked questions, upcoming and past events, and contact information.
The consultant team is planning to return to Maui early next year to present the first draft of the revised code. The consultants and planning staff will also conduct community workshops, informational open houses and planning commission work sessions to gather community input and provide information on the proposed code changes. Details will be posted on the website as they become available.
The contact email for the project is T19Rewrite@mauicounty.gov, and the phone number is (808) 270-7813.
